Overview

SabreSeal FRM is a single-component hybrid MS fire-rated sealant designed for fire-rated movement and connection joints in commercial and industrial construction. Commonly specified for vertical and horizontal joints in concrete tilt panel and precast panel construction, intertenancy walls, breakout joints and grid channel connections, SabreSeal FRM delivers a permanently elastic, fire-resistant seal rated to 4 hours under AS1530.4. Its hybrid MS polymer technology provides strong primerless adhesion to concrete, masonry and most construction substrates, with outstanding UV and weathering resistance for exposed facade joints.

How to use

  • Surface preparation

Substrate surface must be dry and clean; free of dirt, grease, oil, or standing water.

For a neat finishing, use masking tape and remove it within the working time.

For movement joints, use backing material to avoid 3 sided bonding.

  • Method

Cut off the end of the sausage and insert into a manual or pneumatic gun. Place the sausage nozzle on top of the sausage, and screw on the cap. Cut back the nozzle to the required size. Apply adhesive sealant to the substrate.

For joint application: Insert nozzle into joint, apply adhesive sealant moving gun in a forwards direction – never pull backwards as air may be trapped in joint preventing a good seal. Tool the sealant within 2-3 minutes of extrusion before it skins.

  • Clean Up

Remove excess sealant immediately with Sabre CC Citrus Cleaner. Ensure surface is solvent resistant before cleaning.

FAQs

What fire rating does SabreSeal FRM achieve?

SabreSeal FRM achieves up to 4 hours fire resistance in accordance with AS1530.4. Fire ratings are dependent on specific joint configurations, substrates and installation details. For further information on rated configurations, refer to the Technical Data Sheet or contact our technical team directly.

Is SabreSeal FRM suitable for tilt panel joints?

Yes. SabreSeal FRM is well suited to fire-rated vertical and horizontal joints in concrete tilt panel and precast panel construction, including intertenancy walls, movement joints, breakout joints and grid channel connections.

Does SabreSeal FRM require a primer on concrete?

SabreSeal FRM achieves good primerless adhesion to concrete in most applications. Where a primer is desired for optimal adhesion results, Primer PX is our recommendation. Contact our technical team for substrate-specific advice.

How does SabreSeal FRM compare to Sikaflex 400 Fire or Bostik Fireban One?

Sikaflex 400 Fire and Bostik Fireban are both polyurethane-based fire sealants. SabreSeal FRM uses hybrid MS polymer technology, which offers several advantages over polyurethane in construction joint sealing applications. Hybrid MS polymers are free of isocyanates and solvents, making them safer to handle and less sensitive to moisture during application. They deliver superior UV and weathering resistance, meaning the sealant maintains its flexibility and appearance on exposed joints without the yellowing and degradation commonly associated with polyurethane over time.
